You might be wondering, why did Jesus sit on a donkey? The answer is, because the Bible had promised them that their king would come to them riding on a donkey. The Bible said that the king who rode on a donkey would be a gentle king and a good king. Jesus wanted to show everyone that he was the good king who loved the people, just like the Bible promised. That made the whole crowd happy. But, there were a few people in the city who were not happy. Those people were the leaders in the temple. They were jealous and they hated Jesus. If Jesus was king, then the leaders couldn't be kings. If Jesus told everyone what to do, then the leaders couldn't tell everyone what to do. So, the leaders wanted to get rid of Jesus. It’s because they loved being leaders more than they loved Jesus.
And, maybe we can learn from that. All of us love things. And, sometimes we love things so much that we don't want Jesus to take away the things we love. But, we need to remember that Jesus is really good to us. He is gentle and kind and He loves us. Even if He takes away the thing we really like, He will take care of us. And, in the end, the happiest people will be the ones who follow Jesus as their king.
