Devotional
In our Bible story, there were two brothers. The younger brother did a terrible thing and took his father's money and wasted it. The older brother kept working for their father, doing everything their father wanted. The older brother never asked for anything for himself. People might say the older brother is the good son. But it's not so simple. When the younger brother came back, the older brother was so jealous and so angry. The older brother was so upset he didn't want to go to the party. There was something wrong in the older brother's heart too. So the father needed to invite the older brother back to the party, just like he invited the younger brother. Our story reminds us there are two kinds of mistake that we can make with God. We can make the mistake of the young brother, and do all kinds of terrible things, and everyone can see that we did the wrong thing. Or, we can make the mistake of the older brother, and we can be full of jealousy and anger, and we can hate people even when God loves them. But, no matter what kind of mistake maker we are, God still reaches out to us because he loves us, and he wants something better for us.

- Can you tell us about a time you did something wrong?
- Can you tell us about a time you had the wrong attitude? (teacher's comment: no matter how you have gone wrong, if you have made a mistake with your hands or your heart, God still loves you and wants you.)
