Devotional
In our story, there were two sisters -- Mary and Martha. Martha did all the work, and Mary just sat with Jesus and listened to him. So, Martha got really mad! Martha wanted Mary to help her to cook and clean! But, Jesus explained, Mary was doing something important. Mary was listening to Jesus. Martha thought she was the only one doing all the work. But, Mary was working too! She was just working with her mind. Mary was trying hard to understand the most important things in all the world. If she learned these things well, she could help herself and Martha and everyone else she knew. So, Jesus said Mary had chosen the better kind of work. It's always good to serve God with our hands, but sometimes it's even more important to serve God with our minds. So, how can we be like Mary? Well, whenever we come to church, we can be ready to work with our minds. We can pay attention to the lesson, and ask questions. We can try to understand all the ways that God's word help us. That takes work, to understand! But, it's the best kind of work.
