Devotional
At the start of our story, Abraham was a rich man, and he lived in a nice country. He was so rich that he could do anything he wanted. He could just play all day, eat fancy food, and hang out with his friends. But God had a different plan for Abram. God told him to go to a land he had never seen. And God promised to help Abraham. Abraham didn't know where he was going. But he went because he trusted God. Abraham knew God was going to take care of him. Even when there wasn't enough land for both his sheep and his friend's sheep, Abraham didn't have to worry. He knew God was taking care of him. So he just let his friend pick the nicest land for his sheep. We can learn from that! If we love God, he will take care of us. That means we don't always have to get the nicest things for ourselves. And we can let other people have better things than us -- because we know that God has great plans for us, and he will take care of us.
Discussion Questions
- Who told Abraham to go to a new land?
- Abraham had a nice home, but God wanted him to go to a new place. So he had to choose: would he have a nice home, or would he be friends with God? What do you think is better -- a nice home, or God?
