Devotional
Naaman was a very important man. When he talked, people listened, and when he told people to do things, they obeyed. People always tried their best for Naaman. So he must have felt disappointed when he went to Elisha's house. Naaman had travelled all the way to a different country to meet Elisha, but Elisha didn't come out to talk to Naaman. Instead, Elisha sent another man to pass on a message. Elisha's way of doing things didn't make sense to Naaman. But Naaman had to learn to obey God even when God's way of doing things didn't make sense. The man told Naaman to wash seven times in the Jordan River. The Jordan River was the most important river in Israel. But it wasn't as nice as the rivers in Naaman's country. Naaman thought the man's instructions made no sense. But Naaman needed to learn to obey God even when God's way of doing things didn't make sense. At first, Naaman didn't want to do what the man said. But Naaman's servants thought it would be a good idea to do what the man said. So Naaman obeyed. He washed seven times in the Jordan River, and he was healed. In a way, all of us are a bit like Naaman. We all have ideas that make sense to us, but sometimes God tells us to do things that don't make sense to us. In those times, God just wants us to trust him and obey. God is good, and we can trust him even when his instructions seem strange.
