Devotional
In our story, there was a woman whose husband had died. Her husband had been one of God’s prophets, like Elisha. Without her husband, the woman was very poor. She did not have enough money to take care of her two boys, so she went to Elisha and asked for help. Elisha asked her, “What do you have in your house?” The woman said, “I don’t have anything except a little jar of oil.” That did not sound like very much, but God did an amazing miracle with that jar. God created more oil for the woman until she had many jars full of oil. Then she could sell the oil and take care of her family. What can we learn from this story? It reminds us that God cares about people who need help, and he wants his people to care for one another too. Sometimes God helps people by doing an amazing miracle, like he did in this story. But most of the time, God takes care of us by giving us what we need and helping us use it wisely.
