Devotional
In our story, the people of Israel had stopped trusting the real God. Instead, they started worshipping a fake god named Baal. They thought Baal could give them rain. People needed rain so that their farms could grow food. If it didn’t rain enough, the people would have no food to eat. So the people really hoped that Baal would make it rain. But Baal was not a real god. Baal couldn’t do anything for them! So it didn’t rain for a long time. The Bible says it didn’t rain for three and a half years! The people couldn’t grow food, so they were in big trouble. They needed the real God to save them. Of course, God could have given his people rain during all those years, but they needed to learn a very important lesson. Here’s the lesson: We all need food to live, but knowing God is even more important than having food. So let’s remember that it is important to learn about God. When you are at church, you need to focus and try to learn about God. If you do not understand something, you can ask questions. And try not to distract your friends, because they need to learn about God too. Then we can all know God, and he will be the best thing for us.
