God's Story: God Provides for Elijah
Read from The Beginner's Bible

Bible reference: 1 Kings 16:29-17:7
Devotional
In our Bible story, the people of Israel had lost their way. They stopped trusting the real God, and they started trusting in fake gods instead. Many people in Israel were farmers. They needed rain so their plants could grow and so they could have food to eat. But the people thought the fake gods could send rain, so they prayed to the fake gods. Then the real God sent Elijah with a message for the king. God said that the rain would stop for a very long time. The people would not be able to grow food on their farms. This was very sad, but God was teaching his people something very important: the fake gods could not help them. They needed the real God. Knowing the real God is the most important thing in the world. It is even more important than having food to eat. Of course, we need food too. Food can help us live a long life. But when we know God and love him, he gives us life that never ends.
