King Solomon was a young man when he became the king of Israel. Being king was a very big job. The Israelites depended on Solomon to do his job the right way. A good king could really help the people. He could make fair rules, and he could make his country strong and safe. But a bad king could cause a lot of trouble. Solomon wanted to be a good king, so he asked God for wisdom. Wisdom is like being smart and knowing what to do. God was happy that Solomon asked for wisdom. Solomon could have asked for selfish things, like lots of money or a long life. But instead, Solomon asked God to help him do his job well so he could help other people. This is the kind of prayer that makes God happy. When we think of others first and do our best for them because we love them, we can know that God is happy with us. And if we have a good heart like that, God will give us everything we need and more.
