Devotional

King David lived a long life, and he did many important things. First, he was a shepherd. Then he was a soldier. Then he became the king of Israel. In some parts of his story, he was poor and had nothing. In other parts of his story, he was rich and powerful. But one thing stayed the same for his whole life: David loved God. God was David’s best friend. David's friendship with God made him great, so that he became Israel’s best king. David’s son, King Solomon, was smarter and richer, but David was the better king for his people and the better hero in the Bible because he loved God. The most important thing we can do is love God too. Jesus said that loving God is the greatest commandment. If you love God and trust him, he will be your greatest friend. He will make you into a really good person who helps others, and he will take care of you.
