In our Bible story, David did everything the right way. God was with David, so David kept winning his battles. All the people of Israel loved him because David was their hero. He was the one who saved them and kept them safe. Everything was great for David, except King Saul was super jealous. So Saul tried really hard to kill David. David had to hide for a long time. He lost his home. He had to leave his friends behind, and he even had to leave his wife behind. It was not fair at all. But in the end, David was okay. God was with him. God had promised that David would be king, and God kept his promise. That is what it is like for us sometimes when we do the right thing. Sometimes we will do everything right, and people will hurt us anyway. God has not promised us that it will be easy to follow him. But he has promised to be with us, and the Bible tells us God will keep using everything to help us.
